Gaelic Football
The 2002-2003 year sees St.Joseph’s with three teams. These are the seniors (Under 19s), juniors (Under 16s) and finally the Under 14s respectively. Last year we played very few games due to unforeseen circumstances, but this year under the guidance of our new manager, Mr. Mc Mahon, who hails from the Ladies Gaelic Football Heartland of Monaghan, we hope to achieve some success. Commitment has been seen already in this new school year, in that numbers have reached a high of thirty-five. This has never been seen in the school before and it is hoped that we can build more on that. Gaelic Football like any other sport in the school gives the students the opportunity to relieve themselves of the ‘homework’, the ‘study’ and the ‘exams’. Already, there is a great understanding and rapport between the players and Mr.Mc Mahon, and with this, it is hoped that success is just around the corner.
Under 19s (seniors)
To play under 19 Gaelic Football, one must be born on or after the 1st of September 1983. For this team it maybe the last chance of success as some of our players are in their final year of school. This year sees us pitted against our namesakes from Athboy in Meath, Dunshaughlin Community College, also from Meath and finally St. Aidan’s Tallaght from Dublin. The top two teams in our group go forward to the last sixteen of Leinster, as there are eight groups of teams (8x2). The Leinster winners will go forward to the All-Ireland Semi-Finals series.

Under 16s (juniors)
To play under 16 Gaelic Football, one must be born on or after the 1st of September 1986. Like the under 19s, our opposition are the same in that we play our namesakes from Athboy in Meath, Dunshaughlin Community College, also from Meath and finally St. Aidan’s Tallaght from Dublin. Again, like the under 19s, the top two teams go forward to the last sixteen of Leinster, whereby the eventual winners represent the province in the All –Ireland series.

Game 1 Vs St.Joseph’s Athboy (Home)
Game 2 Vs St. Aidan’s Tallaght (Away)
Game 3 Vs Dunshaughlin Community College (Home).

Under 14s
To play under 14 Gaelic Football, one must be born on or after the 1st of September 1988. The under 14 competition commences in February 2003 with two grades A and B. The competition concludes at Leinster Provincial level i.e. no All Ireland series. There has already been great interest shown by this group of players, with every player and Mr. Mc Mahon, looking forward to the new year.

Under 16s- Game 1 Vs St. Joseph’s Athboy     15/10/02

St. Joseph’s Lucan 3- 11           St.Joseph’s Athboy  0-7

The first game of the year seen ourselves our namesakes from Athboy in Meath on a scoreline of 3-11 to 0-7. On a cold wintery day, we got off to a flyer with a goal coming from the boot of corner forward, Sorcha O’ Reilly. Led commandingly by captain in midfield, Caroline Geraghty, we forged ahead thus widening the margin. The backline where never troubled in the first half whereby Alison Hickey, Kerrie Christie, Clare Mullarkey and Shauna Kinsella all excelled. The last line of defence saw Emer Walsh pull off three great saves in goals, which in turn brought a greater confidence to the team as a whole. In the process Geraghty and Sara Lawlor gained complete control of midfield with captain ‘Gerro’ helping herself to three points. The forward line worked well as a unit with Ciara Yeomans excelling at centre forward and Elaine Twomey prominent at full forward, Yeomans getting four points and Twomey helping herself to a goal and a point. Half -Time Score: Lucan 2-8      Athboy   0-2.
The second half started with us being on the backfoot. Athboy scored two early points and then were awarded a penalty when Alison Hickey appeared to have fouled an Athboy player in the box. The penalty was taken and was expertly saved by the inform Walsh in goals. A point from Ciara Yeomans from a free steadied the ship somewhat for us. Athboy scored three more points before Yeomans rattled the Athboy net for the third time. Two more points from Twomey and Sara Lawlor left the final score, a convincing win for St. Joseph’ Lucan and their new manager Mr. Mc Mahon, on a scoreline of 3-11 t 0-7.
