| Irish and German students in Frankfurt with their teachers, December 2007 |
| German Exchange 2007/8 In December 2007, the first leg of this year'sTransition Year German Exchange took place. 20 students took off to Frankfurt for a week along with their teachers. The Germans will be visiting Lucan in April 2008. There is also an Italian and a French Exchange this year. Here is an account of the trip by TY student Laura Barnes: The German Exchange this year was a great success. Our German greatly improved and great fun was had by all.We headed off to Frankfurt on the 5th of December to stay for a week.On arrival we met our exchange partners and headed back to their house to get settled in.At first it was very strange to be living with someone that we had just met but after a night or two we got used to it.The families were very welcoming so that made us feel more at home. The following few days we attended german school and got to experience how the school system over there works. Most afternoons we went on trips to various places such as a visit the Apple Wine factory, the Communications Museum, the Christmas markets, some cathedrals and a trip to a place called Limburg. We had a great time seeing the sights of Frankfurt and enjoying the Christmas atmosphere. At the weekend we spent time with our host families and exchange partners, either just staying at home or heading out somewhere.Other activities were also arranged such as shopping and ice-skating.It was a great opportunity to improve your german, learn about the German lifestyle and make new friends.Although it seemed a little frightening we were surprised to see how much we actually enjoyed ourselves! |
